Dear friends, today we are going to tell you something about the story that lies behind our new project. Everything began with a shipwreck during a stormy night in the end of 1600. A boat with a family of French Jews arrived on a beach called “Valle Grotte”, in the Italian region of Abruzzo; they were escaping from racial persecutions that were widespread in Europe at that time. They soon realised that the Adriatic Sea represented their only way to survive. They couldn’t swim but they were very good at working wood. Therefore, they used their intelligence and creativity to use the trees that were abundant in the internal valleys to build sophisticated fishing machines, inventing a tecnique that would spread along the Italian coast in the regions of Abruzzo, Molise and Puglia…this tradition was passed on through generations until today! These incredible machines are called “trabocchi”, and are also known as the “Giants of the Sea”…if you are curious to discover them, follow us on our journey! In the following weeks we will let you know something more, see you soon!!
